Madagascar's tropical climate (i.e. always humid and very warm) is not uniform due to altitude and prevailing wind directions.
The highlands are more temperate and drier than the hot, humid coast.
There are two seasons:
The hotter and rainier summer from December to the end of April and the colder winter from May to November.
East Coast:
Summer has average temperatures of 29° C. During this time, cyclones (hurricanes) often occur in this part of Madagascar. With heavy storms and lots of rain.
In winter there are occasional rains and slightly falling temperatures.
North and West Coast:
Dry easterly winds in winter and monsoon winds with heavy rain in summer blow over this section. Here it is very hot and humid in the rainy season with average temperatures of 26°C to 31°C.
The warmest region is Maevatanana with maximum temperatures of up to 38°C in the northwest of the island. The temperatures are rather moderate in the dry season.
South coast:
Very dry and very rare rainfall is typical for the south of the country. Unfortunately, the land here is slowly starting to dry out, which unfortunately brings even more poverty to this region. People are slowly starting to flee here.
Highlands:
The highlands have a pleasant climate with an average altitude of 1400 m and average temperatures around 20° C. From November to April it is summer here, with temperatures rarely rising above 30° C. Sometimes there is heavy rain with thunderstorms.
Winter is rather dry and cool, with temperatures even reaching 0°C in some regions.
Summary, one can say:
Madagascar is located in the tropical zone, but has several climate zones.Winter prevails from April to November with average temperatures of 22° to 25° C on the coasts and 10° to 19° C in the highlands.
November to March is summer, the wetter season, with temperatures of around 26° to 31° C on the coast and 20° to 22° C in the highlands.
